Michael joined the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) in 1997 and has over 28 years’ experience working in medicines regulation, including a secondment to Health Canada’s medicines regulator between 2010 and 2012.

Since joining the TGA, Michael has worked across several regulatory areas, including TGA’s laboratories, complementary and over-the-counter medicines, prescription medicines, and corporate support areas.

In 2016, Michael was promoted into the Senior Executive Service (SES) and has led TGA’s Laboratories Branch and the Scientific Evaluation Branch, before taking on his current role as Assistant Secretary, International Regulatory Branch (IRB).

The IRB enables appropriate access to unapproved goods including products such as medicinal cannabis, psychedelics and nicotine vapes. The branch also leads TGA’s relationships and collaborations with key international counterparts to strengthen our regulatory objectives and through a technical assistance program, also strengthens the regulatory systems in Southeast Asia and the Pacific to promote functional health systems by improved access to quality-assured medicines and medical devices.
