Craig Garland MP

Independent Member for Braddon

Craig Garland is a Tasmanian fisherman and grassroots community advocate turned independent member of Parliament. Born and raised in North West Tasmania, Craig has a deep love for the ocean and the bush, which fuels his passion to protect the community and the environment.

After years of campaigning on fisheries management, coastal protection, and other issues that affect people in his local community, Craig was elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly in 2024—becoming the first independent from Braddon to win a lower house seat at state or federal level.

Known for his approachable, down-to-earth nature, Craig is a genuine voice for the people of Braddon.

In the past 12 months, based on his personal experience and experiences in his electorate, Craig has begun to advocate for improving access to medicinal cannabis for pain sufferers, reducing stigma around using cannabis medicinally, and amending legislative inconsistencies surrounding medicinal cannabis prescriptions while operating a motor vehicle.

Whether it’s in Parliament or out on a fishing boat, Craig brings the same passion and straight-talking honesty to everything he does.
