Chris Uhlmann is a freelance journalist and former political editor for Nine News and the ABC. In nearly two decades at the national broadcaster, he hosted a breakfast program, led political coverage for news and anchored flagship programs AM, Insiders and 730. In five years at Nine he led political coverage for news and Today and produced a documentary on the drug trade for 60 Minutes.
He has co-authored three political novels, which were adapted into the award-winning Netflix mini-series Secret City. In 2023, he collaborated with his artist brother, Paul, on the children’s book The Useless Tune and travelled to Ukraine to write and present the documentary Forged in Fire for Nine. In 2024, he wrote and presented The Real Cost of Net Zero for Sky News.
Uhlmann is a columnist for The Australian and a political contributor on Sky. In 2008, he won a Walkley Award for broadcast interviewing. In 2017 he was part of the Four Corners team that won a Gold Quill for investigating Chinese Communist Party influence in Australia. Forged in Fire won silver for documentary writing in the US-based Telly Awards in 2023.
