Andrew Leigh is the Assistant Minister for Competition, Charities, Treasury and Employment, and the Federal Member for Fenner in the Australian Capital Territory. Elected in 2010, Andrew has made significant contributions to public policy and economics. Before entering politics, he was a professor of economics at the Australian National University and earned a PhD in Public Policy from Harvard University. He also holds first-class honours degrees in Arts and Law from the University of Sydney.
A recognised leader in his field, Andrew has received the Economic Society of Australia's Young Economist Award and is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Social Sciences. His academic and policy interests are reflected in his wide range of published books, including Battlers and Billionaires (2013), Randomistas (2018), and Fair Game (2022).
In addition to his professional achievements, Andrew is a passionate Ironman triathlete and marathon runner. He hosts The Good Life: Andrew Leigh in Conversation, a podcast focused on living a happier, healthier, and more ethical life. A dedicated family man, he is the father of three sons and lives with his wife, Gweneth, in Canberra. A member of the Australian Labor Party since 1991, Andrew is committed to fostering fairness and opportunity for all Australians.
